Yes, we can do that

The story of FiltaBac is based on a real, work attitude that the company Robin Pharmaceuticals has had for years ...

"...yes, we can do that!"

It all began in Auckland, New Zealand in the early seventies. Our beginnings may have been humble but not the issues we were addressing. There prevailed at the time some serious and economically damaging conditions for the dairy industry, a major sector in the NZ economy.

The problem was based in the extremely damaging effects of facial eczema.

The solution was to satisfy the demand for a suitable application to protect non-pigmented and non-hair covered skin in dairy cows.

We helped solve the problem and we're proud to say today... that FiltaBac is still highly regarded and used extensively in the dairy industry and also the equestrian and veterinary fields too.

...and this experience of over 35 years has been invaluable in helping us develop and refine the whole ANIWELL range and the FiltaBac products in particular.

The problem of facial eczema is that it manifests itself by the secondary and visible outcome as severe teat damage and udder peeling. This damage is attributed to the photo-sensitisation caused by the absorption of the toxins ingested by cows (the fungus Pithomyces). The toxins from the fungi are isolated by the liver and create the photo-reaction causing peeling and severely damaged teats and udders to such an extent that it is impossible to milk the cow.

The traditional application (1960-70) was a black cream or ointment.

When we were asked if we could make such a product, our answer was:

"Yes, we can do that, but why a black cream? That's exactly the reverse to what should be done in the case of photo-sensitivity. A white reflective cover cream should be applied, plus the skin is damaged so the added benefit of an antibacterial would be useful."

So the original FiltaBac Cream was developed.

As they say, the rest is history, all 35+ years of it, throughout Australasia!

FiltaBac quickly proved very effective and very successful... attributed primarily to its complete sun and light block achieved by a high percentage of Titanium Dioxide and the Zinc Oxide in the cream.

Combined with the antibacterial qualities of the Cetrimide and Benzalkonium Chloride, FiltaBac was also used on horses and other animals like cats and dogs.

It also quickly became apparent that the application of FiltaBac onto the damaged skin area gave an almost immediate soothing, pain relief reaction. Great for farmers because this meant that if FiltaBac Cream was applied to the teats unable to be milked in the morning, they could be safely milked at the afternoon milking.

FiltaBac cream became known as:

"the barrier cover that simulated the properties of undamaged skin plus the sun block properties minimised any further damage."

The cream is non-reactive primarily because of the non-absorbed, inert value of Titanium Dioxide. The consistency and the phasing of the creams structure mimics the properties of real skin allowing transpiration of the covered area and prevents intrusion of external contaminants.

So that's why we've been saying for years and still say it today, simply and clearly: FiltaBac is "as close as you can get to a totally natural second skin."

Our launch into the UK is a carefully considered and deliberate move to ensure we meet the needs of the Equine market by ensuring we have excellent distribution channels and are able to provide full support to the veterinary sector.

So we are excited about the prospect of the Aniwell range and the FiltaBac product being available UK-wide this summer. We look forward to your feedback. We expect questions and suggestions... after all our working philosophy for 35+ years has been based on...

"yes, we can do that, even in the UK"

So have a good ol’ scout around the website. It won't take long because we know you're very busy but we think we've included enough information on these pages to make our case so that you can use FiltaBac in total confidence, knowing it has our utmost backing and support.
